Lazy Sunday: movie review

Oomph it's a steamy day here in Tennessee and it's only a little pass 9:00am. With laundry going and a grocery list made I figure it's time to sit down and blog.

Yesterday the hubs and I spent a relaxing day doing pretty much nothing. It's free movie channel weekend through our cable provider so we recorded several movies one of which we watched yesterday.

We're the Millers. I'll admit I giggled a time or two but it definitely didn't live up to the hype that surrounded it, not for me anyway. Not to say it wasn't worth the watch but I've seen movies that give more a laugh. When Aniston and Roberts start teaching the brother how to kiss it grew pretty uncomfortable. I would, however, like to see a sequel to see what happens next...that's if they make it right and not just a sequel bust.

After the movie was over we took a nice little afternoon nap. After dinner we watched Big Brother 16 which I'm in love with! I'm kinda feeling the twists this year, it adds to the "expect the unexpected" line.

What've you been watching?

Summer reading

This week has been filled with rain but yesterday the summer showers held off while I went to help my dad with a catering in the concession trailer, which was a first for me.

Just recently my dad started doing concession trailer events. I thought I would never like anything more than regular caterings but with one concession trailer event under my belt it definitely wins out. For those who do not know much about catering events, I'll explain: the difference between a catering event and a concession trailer event is when you're catering the event coordinator normally pays in advance for whatever food we serve. We then set up a buffet style line and serve the plates for you, free of charge due to costs paid in advance. A concession trailer event consists normally of an event coordinator contacting us to bring out the trailer and food is made to order in which you pay for what you order. That's the short and skinny of it anyway.

After the event was over and everything was unloaded I headed to Books-A-Million on a quest to purchase The Stripper Diaries by Trisha Paytas. Unfortunately they didn't have it in stock so I set out to find an untraditional love story. I ended up coming by three: Taking Chances by Molly McAdams, One Tiny Lie by K.A. Tucker, and A Summer Affair by Elin Hilderbrand. I wanted to be reasonable and I finally narrowed it down to two in my shopping cart. Unfortunately One Tiny Lie didn't make the cut this time.

A Summer Affair was never in question as a purchase. It sparked my attention immediately thus meaning it will be the first of the two I read.

What are you reading this summer?

House refresh

The past two days I have been hard at it around the house. For months the ugly red door and shutters have been getting on my nerves. It wasn't just that it was red but it was that it was more orangy-red and it was hideous. At first the color wasn't bad when we bought the house but overtime the evening sun did it's damage to make it unbearable. It's kind of hard to see in the above picture which was a picture taken for the house listing.

Our brick has hints of black so there was never a large debate on what color to paint because I immediately knew I wanted to emphasize on the black. I also knew it would give such a refreshing look.

I am beyond happy with the way it turned out. The previous home owners painted the shutters without removing them from the house making the removal process 10x harder than it should have been. They painted over the screws and the screws were stripped out so we ended up having to remove half of the screws with pliers.

Once everything was dry I cringed at the thought of putting the old brassy hardware back on the door. I had Kyle just put the dead bolt on long enough for me to run to Lowes to grab new door hardware which ended up in me replacing all of the exterior door knobs.

I am so happy with how everything turned out and even more happy that now my Fourth of July wreath stands out. You'll get to see it in a later post!

Summer playlist

There's something about summer time that makes me want to roll my windows down and my music up. So one writing prompt from Mama Kat came as an easy pick. Create a summer playlist. Um hello? It's like the Writing Prompt Gods leaned down in Mama Kat's ear and told her exactly what to put on her list for me.

Beachin by Jake Owen
Tennis Court by Lorde
Fancy by Iggy Azalea
Pontoon by Little Big Town
Happy by Pharell Williams
Come and Get It by Selena Gomez
Who You Are by Jessie J
Somewhere With You by Kenny Chesney
Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams
Schools Out by Alice Cooper
Beautiful Day by Jamie Grace
The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars
Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard
Thunderstruck by ACDC
Cruise by Florida Georgia Line
Bottoms Up by Brantley Gilbert
Take Me Home by Cash Cash
Cry by Bingo Players
Summer by Calvin Harris

Though I could add a thousand more to this list, which I'm probably forgetting some favorites, these are definitely great songs to get you through the summer. What's on your iPod?

Flea Market Finds

This past weekend Kyle and I went to Dover, TN, about 45 minutes away, to visit his family. Every other Sunday his grandmother, Nanny, cooks for the family and we all pile up and dig in. He has a huge family, emphasis on the huge, with his moms side alone he has three aunts and an uncle plus they each have two kids a piece and then there's also all the great grand children.

After catching up with our bi-weekly routine our intentions were to head out for the drive home. His mom is always talking about the LBL flea market so we decided to make a pit stop and visit for the first time. Everything was so incredibly cheap! I easily see this becoming a part of our Sunday's in Dover routine. They had huge old vintage trunks, that could easily be used as a coffee table, for only $20. My heart was fluttering with happiness.

I don't know if I'm becoming strong willed, more disciplined or what but I only bought these two cuties. The yellow one was $2 and the aqua just $3. How could I pass it up? In total honesty I would've came home with a trunk as well if Kyle hadn't been with me cause he wouldn't have been there to talk me out of it. I do plan on going back, with or without Kyle, and digging a little deeper in all the vintage goodness.

Pretty little addiction

It's been a rainy summer day over here with dark clouds and heart jumping thunder. I completely went balls to the walls last week with house chores so today I just relaxed. What? A dark house, frightened dogs, and the sound of rain on the windows is the perfect equation for snuggling up on the couch and catching up with a few guilty pleasures.

Who wouldn't want to snuggle up with that little fur ball? It takes a lot for me to really get "into" a tv show. I have my regular obsessions like reruns of Smallville and drooling over Jax in Sons of Anarchy but really I would've never even got into those if it weren't for Kyle. A couple months ago we started a free trial, which is now a monthly billing, of Netflix. After posting on Facebook asking for a suggestion on what series to start I randomly chose one from the multiple suggestions thinking it would be a one hit wonder and not suck me in. I am almost ashamed to even admit it...

Yes, Pretty Little Liars. One show. That is all it took for me to become completely obsessed and finish a whole season in just a matter of days. After realizing my fix could only last so long without running out of episodes I put on the brakes. Here I am all caught up, as of today. I may start going into convulsions having to wait a full week between episodes. I may even have a panic attack when this season is over and I have to wait for the next season to come out.

As I'm writing this post on my front porch I notice the woman across the street has four inch, give or take, wedges on that she clearly cannot walk in. Random, but who am it to judge...I just confessed to having an unhealthy addiction to a teen drama television series.

What's your guilty pleasure in terms of a television show?

Repurposed Chandelier

Yesterday morning I had to get a move on things cause Koby had an appointment with the groomers on the other side of town. Unlike most appointments it was only an appointment for Koby, not Sophie, because with his poodle blood comes poodle maintenance.

I'm pretty sure he's smiling here. His ears were a little messed up from the air vents blowing on him but he was definitely feeling sassy.

Since I was on that side of town I decided to stop by Habitat for Humanity's Restore. If you have a H4H in your town but not a H4H Restore seriously contact them and ask them to put one in your town. If enough interest is shown they may do it! It's like a Goodwill (thrift store) but it's more for house stuff. When people remodel homes or have excess tile, carpeting, etc it all comes here. Anyways since I'm not getting paid to brag about their amazingness and I could go on and on about my love for this place, I'll move on to the subject at hand.

I've been trying to tone down my thrifting lately because I've been needing to have a garage sale of stuff I no longer use/need/want and I want to clean out not pile up. So though I passed up some incredibly cheap floating shelves I did, however, purchase a hideous gold chandelier. Which I seriously need to get better about taking before and after pictures.

I first removed the glass sconces and removed the light bulb attachment so I could have more room for soil. I then placed the sconces back and added a pinch of dirt.

I then added a shake or two of Osmocote, which you can purchase online, Walmart, or Lowes. I swear by this stuff because it feeds your plants for 4 months and it always makes plants grow wonderfully.

I then planted my asparagus ferns and finished them off with soil. Lowes had actually put a ton of their ferns on clearance for only $1.00 making this project, not including soil or food, only $15.00!! I am so happy with the way it turned out.

Have you repurposed something for your garden?

Unmade bed

Somewhere I read an article on simple ways to love your home and on the list was make your bed. Yes, just a simple making of the bed should help you to love your home more. Confession: I've never been a bed maker. I'll give you a moment to pick your jaw up from the floor. Growing up if I kept my room tidy that was enough to appease my mom. Considering it rarely was as a child my mom spent all her energy making me clean my room that there wasn't any of her left to nag get me to make my bed. Oh the childhood struggles.

Sophie wanted her and her toy to be in the picture. She's a natural.
I will say that I do love my bedroom when the bed is made. It just looks cleaner and also allows me to open the window blinds. The first day Kyle came home to a made up bed he walked into the bedroom and asked, "what happened in here?" And after last night I know that I should always try to make it to bed first or atleast pull the covers down for him.

When I came to bed last night, maybe 15-30 minutes after Kyle, I walked in to this. He had shoved all the pillows to my side and didn't even roll down the decorative comforter. (we don't actually sleep under the decorative comforter, there's a quilt underneath) You can hardly see him or how Koby is slightly peeping his head out of the pillows. So my lesson has been learned: unmake the bed before the hubs takes the duty upon himself. I'll admit, I bursted out laughing and woke sleeping beauty up.

I've also come to the conclusion that I may be the only one who likes for the bed to be made.

Handing out free smiles

Mama’s Losin’ It

It's that time again for Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop! After arguing with myself on which prompt I really wanted to take on this week I finally slimmed it down to:
List 7 things you'd rather be doing this summer.

Though I could go on and on about how I really rather be spending more time with my husband and doing all sorts of random vacations which I kind of um...have... my number one thing I wanted to do this summer isn't going to make it on this summers playlist. Really my whole list of seven stems from this one.

one
I have always wanted to take a missions trip since I was much younger and I opened my church's weekly bulletin and saw a list of all the mission trips that were available for sign up that summer. It ranged from South America locations to Central America locations and even locations in the States. The only opportunites I was apart of was church camp and vacation bible school, which I'm still grateful for. I thought my opportunity to help save the world was long lost for me being that I moved away and I didn't find any more opportunites.

Then I met my small group from church which has a wonderful couple who have visited Honduras several times. Hope restored. After long talks within the group we decided we would be taking a trip however it fell short this summer and won't be happening until later this year or next.

two
Instead of sitting here drinking my coffee on my new outdoor couch with my feet propped up on an ottoman and writing this blog post I rather be spreading hope.

three
I rather be learning and leading. Learning about lives that are much less fortunate than mine. Leading these lives to Christ and to know there will always be someone there for them.

four
I rather be sharing the love of my Heavenly Father. Sharing the good news of His son that was sent here to die for our sins so that we could have an everlasting life.

five
I rather be helping orphanages with everyday chores to help take the load off. I rather be cooking and cleaning for someone else that needs the help.

six
I rather be handing out free smiles to those who have not genuinely smiled in days, weeks, and even months.

seven
I rather be taking all that I have experienced on my missions trip to be more grateful for everything I have been blessed with.

What would you rather be doing this summer?

Pesto bruschetta chicken casserole

After a super long weekend I am finally back! We went to our favorite annual bike rally this weekend and to say my 25 year old body doesn't keep up with my 20 year old body is a complete understatement! So far this week hasn't been very eventful, mainly just trying to get my house back in order after the trip tornado came through the house. Am I the only one who's house gets completely turned upside down before a trip and you come back to a complete disaster zone? Nevertheless last week I decided to try a recipe that I saw on A Modern Mrs

Image via A Modern Mrs.
I really meant to take a photo of my own but it completely slipped my brain.

If there was an award for pickiest eater alive Kyle would probably win it. I can't cook anything to make this man happy unless it's plain speghetti or chicken...lots of chicken! The other day when I came across this recipe I decided he could either eat it with a smile or it would be one more failing attempt to appease him but trying couldn't hurt. When I went to serve it to him I only scooped a little bit so he could test the waters first. I had no idea that the second serving he would get covered his entire plate. insert major victory dance! This bruschetta pesto chicken casserole was mouth watering! Though the hubs did pick out all of the tomatoes I personally thought the tomatoes were delicious, this is coming from a non tomato lover. The only thing I changed about the original recipe was I added in 1/4 cup of finely chopped onion.

Ingredients:
1 pint Grape Tomatoes, quartered
1 Garlic Clove, minced
2 tbs. Balsamic Vinegar
4 Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts {about two pounds}, cubed
1/2 cup Basil Pesto
2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
1/4 cup Butter, melted
2 cups Seasoned Panko Crumbs

How to:
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
In a small bowl, combine the tomatoes, garlic, and vinegar. Marinate in the fridge until ready to use.
In a medium bowl, toss the pesto and chicken together. Place in a single layer in a 13x9 baking dish.
Scoop the tomato mixture on top, disregarding any excess balsamic vinegar leftover.
Sprinkle the cheese on top.
Mix the melted butter and panko crumbs together and sprinkle on top of the cheese.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is done. If you notice the crumbs are browning too much, cover your dish with a foil tent.

Side note: I really want to learn a basil pesto recipe so I can put my fresh basil to good use. But not knowing exactly how this meal would turn out I took a bit of a short cut and went with store bought.

If you try it let me know how yours turned out!

Broken limb

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say I live in soggyville right now. The rain has been nonstop! Though I'm happy it's keeping my grass ultra green and my plants watered free of charge I can't exactly play in the yard in this mess!

The clouds are rolling in at record speed, by my count anyway, and what was a cheerful sky this morning is now depressingly dark.

Apparently last night got a little more rougher than I thought. I came outside to a broken limb this morning.

My neighbor is clearly awesome and she clearly gets my humor. So as I'm sitting on my front porch admiring my super awkward tree and watching the rain fall I look over and catch my schnauzer, Sophie, giving me the most serious look as if she's trying to tell me, "mom! it's raining come hold me and snuggles."

So now I must go console her!

Saturday well spent

Saturday I decided it's time to start getting my tan on. With a trip to PCB, FL in August slowly creeping up on me it's time to get a good base tan so I don't fry like a lobster...or Will Farrell for that matter...

image via Google

I stopped by my sisters house and picked up my nephew and then headed to my parents for a day in the pool.

Because my nephew, J, is awesome he agreed to recreate this picture of when he was a one year old. Seriously my heart melts every time I see this picture! But his awesomeness didn't stop there...

He proceeded to let me play with his hair, and boy does he have a LOT of it! After our little photo session, and obviously during it, his Granny got him a fudge pop and he snuggled in real close to me and wanted me to share it with him. The older he gets the sweeter he gets, watch out girls.

Though I didn't get much of a tan I got to hang out with this little booger and my parents for the afternoon resulting in a Saturday well spent! Kyle had to work but as we called it a day so did he because huge storms and a tornado warning headed our way...

The drive home was horrible. It's hard for me to drive in rain let alone a torrential downpour! Luckily I got us home safely and I spent the rest of the day hanging out with my adorable hubs. Result: one successful Saturday!

Sew it's Sunday

I could pretty much say I've never used a sewing machine a day in my life. Sure, there was that one class in middle school where we sewed a pillow...that was ages ago and I hardly remember a thing! However I do still have my pillow.

It's two peas in a pod. I give you permission to laugh at my failing attempt to sew a straight line but after all I was a middle schooler.

Now that I'm 15 years older I'm actually gaining an interest. Part due to I love all crafting hobbies other part due to I'm cheap and I'd like to make my own goodies for half the price. Seriously, check out these table runners I found via Pinterest

In my head I can envision what corners to fold and sew but my problem? I don't know how to use the machine. I guess this will be one more project on my to-do list. Learn to sew!

I'm watching you

I absolutely LOVE date nights with my husband! With summer here they do not happen nearly as often as I would like with his crazy busy schedule. Right after we got married he started his own lawn care business. However he still works his normal supervisor job out on Fort Campbell Monday through Friday and then when he gets off work he operates his own business till dark. If that's not enough he started helping his Uncle R with his lawn care business as well. This results to me only spending time with my precious man on Sunday's but hey I'll take it. I thought it would be harder on me this year being a SAHW however I think I'm finally getting into routine.

Last night we went on a date to Buffalo Wild Wings. I was super excited because they started serving this drink called Whiskey Irishman however when I went to order it I was informed they no longer served it. Insert huge devastation. I'm not a whiskey drinker by any means, honestly I hardly ever drink mixed drinks or liquor at all, but this drink was out of the ballpark amazing. So instead I ordered my new fave Angry Orchard. Kyle always drinks two to my one so this time I set out to keep up the pace.

Over the course of the evening we laughed and talked about all sorts of things. This long overdue date night was exactly what I needed. Truth be told I think it's exactly what he needed as well. The headache I recieved this morning from overindulging last night was not what I needed however. Kyle drank 3 to my 2. Yes, I have a slight hangover from only two tall glasses of beer...I don't drink often. Next time, regardless of happy hour specials, I think I will opt for the short glasses instead and probably not try to keep up with Kyle's fast pace.

When we went to leave Kyle and I both had to visit the restroom. I couldn't hardly contain myself when I shut the door and saw this on my stall door:

Want to talk about awkward? In my state of alcohol induced bliss I started laughing hysterically making my bathroom break longer than need be. I guess it was a good way to cap off a great night.

Favorite Five Friday

Today I want to keep it short and sweet and round up my five favorite things this week. Feel free to join along just post a comment so I can check your faves out!

Earlier this week I found this rug while strolling through Walmart. Twenty bucks later my entry looks refreshed.

I love that earlier this week I got to suprise my mom by randomly showing up at her house. We sat on the back porch and admired the wonderful weather.

I could kick myself in the butt for not trying this out sooner. They smell divine. I got a little shake happy when washing my sheets so now all you have to do is walk by my master bedroom doorway and it smells like fresh laundry heaven.

Another purchase I wish I would have made a long time ago. This stuff is awesome...and cheap!

My mom got me this this week for my essential oils. For now I've been using it in my bedroom. I put a few drops of lavender on the diffuser pad, insert pad, and plug in. My sleep has been luxurious!

What are you're favorite things this week?

Cut along the line

It's time for my absolute favorite link up!
Mama’s Losin’ It

Each week Mama Kat posts different writing prompts to inspire a blog post. Head over on Thursday and link up to share what her prompts has inspired you to blog about.

This week I chose:
something that made you smile
When it comes to mine and Kyle's relationship there are tons of ironic things that surround us from how we met to his fingers and toes. Yes, his fingers and toes.

Our last name is Webb. Kyle has webbed fingers and toes. Yes, I give you permission to laugh hysterically because I still do to this day. Luckily he finds humor in this as well:

cut along the line
Yes. This is a picture of him getting that tattoo on his toes. He actually went to get a tattoo on his elbow of a spider web (insert Webb pun again) and happened to mention to the artist our joke about getting the scissor tattoo. After a round of laughter she told him she would not even charge him if he would let her do it. Being that Kyle is down for anything he gave her the go. Five minutes later every artist in the shop was surrounding his feet and exclaiming how awesome he is...duh why do you think he's mine! Every time I look at his toes I smile. However the webbing doesn't stop there...

When Kyle and I first got together, as if he were trying to scare me away, he told me his ring finger and middle finger on his left hand were webbed together and that he saw it as a sign from God that he wasn't suppose to get married. I, on the other hand, saw it as a sign to start getting creative. Further into our relationship Kyle saw this as well. From the day I met him I knew we were suppose to be together forever and I was not going to let a little webbing get in my way, regardless if he could never wear a ring. Luckily, he really likes tattoos.

Knowing he loves me enough to get my first initial permanently inked on him makes me smile.
